Upgrading a floating budget hotel

If one takes the ferry from Central Station in Amsterdam to the NDSM Wharf, they will see the white boat with the big red letters, “BOTEL”. From a distance they appear as fire-engine red chimneys, but upon closer inspection they are among the most extraordinary hotel rooms in Amsterdam. The five letters of BOTEL are roughly 6 meters high, 6 meters wide, with interiors furnished as hotel suites. Visitors literally sleep inside the letters, and each letter entertains its own theme. For example, there is a room with a mini cinema, and a room with a spiral staircase to the bedroom above. This imaginative addition to the identity of the new NDSM Wharf proved to be the secret to the hotel’s continued success.

The role of STONE22

This was a small-scale development project. STONE22 provided the project management and financial management, including a clear framework and budgetary control, and advised throughout the operation.
