Clubhouse for pioneers
Less than a 3-minute walk from Central Station in Amsterdam stands De Ruyterkade 128, a former factory building which has been converted into an inspiring work environment. Springhouse has been established as a ‘clubhouse for pioneers of the new world’. People from a variety of disciplines, working on innovations in areas of social change and transition, find their work and/or meeting places here. The building’s innovative concept regarding climate and sustainability form both an example and an inspiration for this target group.
The redevelopment and realization of Springhouse
STONE22 was responsible for the redevelopment. We managed the design team and realized the construction within a short timeframe. Because of tight budgetary restraints, we reused as many of the existing materials and installations as possible. Examples include the solar chimney, and the optimal use of both sunlight and heat which reduces energy consumption in both winter and summer.
