MATRIX VII, a new Research Center in the Amsterdam Science Park.
Matrix Innovation Center offers accommodation and additional services to approximately 105 startup companies in ICT, new media, the life sciences, sustainable chemistry, high tech, and other organizations involved in science-related activities. Due to the increased interest in establishing themselves at the Amsterdam Science Park, the existing Matrix buildings are almost completely leased and further expansion of the facilities is necessary. Amsterdam Science Park is widely respected and has become a knowledge hub of high international standing. The new building, Matrix VII, will house, among others, the Advanced Research Center for Nanolithography (ARCNL), a scientific public-private partnership of NOW, UvA, VU and ASML. On Tuesday, 6 June, 2017, the official first pile was “struck” for Matrix VII.
The modern building of approximately 8,000 m2 GFA is equipped with specific low-vibration installations, and can be flexibly partitioned. Matrix VII has a clear and thoughtfully designed structure in which two atriums are central and serve as meeting places for researchers. Great attention has also been paid to sustainability, and a series of measures are in place to ensure that a BREEAM certification of ‘very good’ can be achieved. The design team, consisting of architect Ector Hoogstad, Deerns, and IMd, among others, is responsible for the appealing and functional design.
The Züblin/Croonwolter&dros building consortium is responsible for the construction. There was a constructive cooperation between the design team and Züblin/Croonwolter&dros throughout the preparation phase. STONE22 is acting in the project as a developer and manager on the client’s side. OostelbosVandenBerg is managing the construction. Matrix VII is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2018.
